Balance bike

We bought this balance bike for Oliver's 2nd birthday from this New Zealand website. It is designed to help children learn balance and steering before riding real bikes. It has no pedals so to ride on it you sort of need to reach the ground. When we gave him this in May he was obviously not tall enough but finally the time has come!

We also gave him a bell and a front basket which made Oliver smile even more.

Look I can ride without daddy's help now! We just have to make sure he doesn't go too fast.

Bike ride II (second big one)

This morning Matthew left home for a big bike ride with his new bike riding mates.
He put his new toy on his bike and off he went. He came home after 2 and half hours exhausted.
His watch tells us that he did 62km in 2hour 35min. On the map it looked like he covered half of Brunei. He burnt so many calories (1780!).

I am happy he has a new way of exercising (because his tummy is still big...).
He was not too keen thinking about a big ride but when he came home he looked very satisfied!

Biking is great!!

Matthew turned 30 in August this year but as we were in Japan at that time and we have been busy looking after our little boy I hadn't bought him a proper 30th birthday present.
By the time I stopped thinking about it, it was already Christmas time to choose another present for him.

Our neighbor Nathan (who is Boel's husband from Taupo NZ) has been talking about road biking to Matthew and encouraging him to buy one. Matthew was quite interested in but worried about the cost of the bike etc.

So Misuzu made a decision and off we went to the only shop in Brunei where we can buy proper bikes. Matthew was not sure if he would like biking since he hasn't done any before but I was determined that it will be good for him as he can exercise anytime he wants and gets to ride with other groups of people.

This is it!



Since he got his bike he has done some rides with his biking mates. On Sunday last week he participated in Universal Access and Human Rights World Aids day 2009 HIV Awareness tour.
They biked 50ks from 6:30am! (as it gets pretty hot here in Brunei)

When he got home I was surprised to see another brand new bike for me that Matthew won at the event!!! Now we can bike together!! (I think he needs to participate another one to win a little bike for Oliver)
