Going to work

Oliver was packing his little Toy Story bag to go to work the other day. He takes this business very seriously and selects which toys he wants to take along.

This is what he told me when he finished packing. "Mummy I'm ready to go to work but I cannot fly an airplane yet"

I need coffee

When we go past coffee shops this is what Oliver tells me "I need coffee mummy"

Well today he got his own coffee? Baby-chino at Starbucks.

 

Mi-Su-Zu

Oliver is sometimes calling me "Mi-Su-Zu?" recently, I guess he listens to his father calling me that. But whenever he calls me he asks me the same question - "Mi-Su-Zu? Where is my Matthew?" Strange...

My hands are...

It is a part of Japanese culture to have a long bath soak at night. The boys are getting used to the routine and are loving fun bath time. But when we spend a while in the bath Oliver complains his hands are rainbow - yeah he means wrinkly.



I haven't told him he is using the wrong word it is just too cute!

Bayshore park please

Oliver is adapting to the lifestyle in Singapore. Whenever he gets into a taxi he says to the taxi driver - "Bayshore Park please" (It is the condo name where we live at the moment). So cute.

So pretty!

Linnea has been teaching Oliver lots of new expressions and sentences, or more likely Oliver wants to copycat what L&L says. One of the phrases he uses (which I think so gorgeous) is "(something) is so pretty"

Sunglasses

One of Oliver's favourite expressions right now is "It's so..."
This evening when I was putting Oliver to bed (he turns all the lights off in his bedroom so that it is completely dark when he goes to bed) he told me "Mummy, it's so dark, I need sunglasses." ...well son, it will be even darker with a pair of sunnies on in this darkness. Bless him I just couldn't stop giggling.

So clever

Oliver's listening skills are improving amazingly. He can pick up most English sounds and a lot of Japanese sounds. He knows what to say in the right context now too.

Yesterday when I was on my iphone he came to me and said - "Mummy, share! It's my turn!" (This is what I say when Oliver's friends come around and convince him to share his toys... he certainly understands what I mean ha?!)

Matthew is having a hard time getting Oliver to say "Elephant"

Yeah... elephants are a kind of animal but you are supposed to say ELEPHANT...

Oliver dictionary

When you talk to Oliver you need a special dictionary to figure out what he is saying.
For example:

He says = he means

sock = gum boots
ana = another
sit here = chair
sit here = table
dgar = digger
nana = banana
breakfast = breakfast
breakfast = lunch
breakfast = dinner

The dictionary is getting bigger everyday...

Oliver can count!

Oliver has been counting when he goes up and down the stairs. He has mastered counting in English 1-10!! (still working on Japanese 1-10 tho).

Daddy plane!

Oliver's words developed so much while we were in NZ. It is like someone pushed an ON button in his brain. He can even say his own name now!

One of his favourite sayings is "daddy plane!" every time he sees any RBA plane he shouts out and get excited, he is just so cute!

Bugger

Oliver's language skills are coming along so well.
He can repeat pretty much everything we say, even when we don't expect him to repeat...

I was talking with Matthew and said "BUGGER" then 2 seconds later a little boy of ours loudly said "BUGGER" !!

Bugger... we need to be very careful what we say when Oliver is around from now on.

Two dogs

We have been working hard teaching Oliver WORDS, of course both English and Japanese. He knows lots of words now but has trouble putting them together.

But today he finally said TWO DOGS, two and dogs together! Yeah!

Oliver and I will be away in Japan for two weeks from next Friday. I am sure he will pick up lots more Japanese words once we get there. So exciting!

5 little ducks... ♬ ♪

A month or so ago I was singing to Oliver the "Five little ducks" song. I wanted to see if Oliver gets my joke. So I sang this way;

♪ Five little ducks went swimming one day.... Mummy duck said "MOOOOO" - Noooo just kidding she said "quack quack quack" ♫

But since then whenever I sing the song he says "MOOOOO" instead of "Quack Quack Quack".

Oops! How can I undo this?!

Choo-choo

Ever since we visited Japan Oliver's obsession with trains has been getting serious. Half of the day he is saying "densha!, densha!"

He also developed this funny densha dance- he points his index fingers up in air and keeps walking around shouting densha! densha! densha! Matthew and I are laughing so much.

It is taking over his sleeping time too - the other day he was asleep but talking in his sleep "choo! choo!".

Very cute but a bit concerned with his obsession...

One more! No more!

This is what we hear in the kitchen while Oliver eats at the moment.
When he wants more, he doesn't just say "more" he says "One more!", and when he finishes he lifts the empty plate and says "No more!" Both come with great body movements too.

It is amazing to witness how a child develops from a baby to a proper human.
We can now have a conversation with him. He seems to be much happier now that he can communicate what he wants.

Looking forward to the next few months with more of his new words.

More Japanese words

In the last week of our Japanese holiday Oliver mastered more Japanese words.
Oishi for yummy, Yatta for yeeeeeah.
Nata! for Hinata, he is Oliver's favourite cousin at the moment. He is still walking around the house looking for him.
Uzuki for Yuzuki and Ui and Una for Rui and Runa.

I am glad he is becoming bilingual already : ) It was certainly a good holiday for his language development.

Densha!

Oliver quickly learned a new Japanese word, densha (=trains).
We went to my parent's apartment for lunch the other day. Their place is right by the train line.

When we were kids I really didn't like living by the train line. We couldn't hear anything when the trains went by and constantly had to change the TV volume.

But all of our nephews and nieces loved watching all the different trains going by when they were small. Oliver was not an exception. He quickly got into pointing out to them and scream "densha densha!"





It is bit cold to be out, but he can be entertained for a long long time so I am very happy : )

Shoes

Oliver's words are coming together, he can now say shoes ! Especially this pair he got from Sara (in Spain) - he loves!

He is even walking around the house with them in his hands calling out "shoes, shoes, shoes!!"
